Learning Support

All our teachers structure the learning in their classes with a low floor, high ceiling approach. Meaning students can work and progress at the level of the curriculum they are working on. Teachers work to support and extend all our learners and help them to address any gaps in their learning. If our teachers have any concerns about your child’s learning, they will get in touch with you.

We have a Learning Support Coordinator onsite at HSS who oversees the running of our Learning Support programmes. We have a dedicated team of LSA’s (Learning Support Assistants) who work throughout the school to support our learners inside and outside the classroom.

Ways we support children with learning needs in the classroom

Our Learning Support Coordinator assists kaiako with MOE device applications for those students who qualify, access support from outside agencies such as the RTLB and the MOE, liaise with community and social support groups and connect with professionals from other sectors.

Programs like Lexia work alongside the classroom programme to help build literacy skills.

LSAs (Learning Support Assistants) work with students to help build social skills and to support learning.

We have an onsite counsellor who works in partnership with whānau to help build the skills the selected students need.
